Do you have a 1.5 Joomla! template that needs to migrate to 1.7 or even 2.5?
Most published migration documentation recommends us to download the upgraded template from your template provider. But what if your template provider does not support that particular template any longer? Or, what if you have a custom template that did not come from a template provider?
This meetup will show you how easy it is to convert your Joomla 1.5 templates to 1.7/2.5 and show you a few online resources where you can find some information to assist you.
Hello, my name is Kirk Hayes and I have been a Joomla advocate since the 1.0 days long before 1.5 ever existed. Back then I got stuck dealing with Joomla 1.0 websites that did not have support for Joomla 1.5 templates even from reputable template providers. With this new long term release, I want to make sure that we Joomla folks will not be frightened of the migration and be as well equipped as possible. I don’t have all the answers, however I will show you a real conversion step by step that does not require downloading an updated template. We will do the entire template conversion ourselves.
I am going to take one of my current 1.5 websites, convert the template such that it can be installed on a 1.7 installation. Then I am going to show you how I then use tools like Firebug and Chrome to make additional changes to the Template CSS in order to make it look like the old 1.5 website.
Requirements: Joomla 1.5 and enthusiasm
6:30 - 7:00 Arrive & Networking
7:00 - 8:45 Template migration/coversion

Fall Art in Clay Sales Discussion plus The Art of Selling Art
Why in the world would we move the September meeting to a Sunday? Because we needed more time to present a half day of information focused on selling your artwork! As we do for each September meeting, we’ll first devote time to discuss the annual OVCAG 2011 Art in Clay Sale. Cristina Chang and Jill Getzan will review all key points for our November sale at the Lucie Stern Community Center, including work assignments and charts that map out the rooms and tables. Artists participating in the Sale are asked to attend this discussion.
Then, when everyone is in their sales mood, the second segment will feature “The Art of SellingArt” a mini-workshop delivered by Robert Regis Dvorak, a well-known local painter, writer, instructor, and speaker. Those of you familiar with Robert’s style already know that he presents very lively and interactive programs! Here is a description of his Art of Selling Art workshop:
You can easily learn to sell more, turn more customers into buyers faster, and keep customers longer. Sell anything you want and begin at once. In this fast-paced course on the art of selling, you will learn how to create immediate desire, how to create instant rapport, what to ask, when to listen, what to say, easy closing techniques you can learn in minutes, correct body language and voice tone, and how to magically connect a person to your product or service.
Robert will distill the workshop he’ll do for us from his full-day training, in which he touches on the following: motivation, attitude adjustments, self confidence, prospecting clients, telephone tips, respect and courtesy, vocabulary, qualifying issues, psychological connections, closing, handling money objections, high ticket item sales, and corporate sales.
We are thrilled to have Robert come and present The Art of Selling Art at our extended September General Meeting, and it will be free to OVCAG members! Non-members who wish to attend will be asked to contribute a nominal fee. We’re also planning to host a great potluck with food and beverages to keep everyone contented during the afternoon. Tentative hours will be 12-1 for the Art in Clay Talk, then 1-3:30 for “The Art of Selling Art” workshop. The location and the exact time frame will be publicized when they’re finalized. Everyone is invited! Please make every effort to attend— it will be a fantastic afternoon!

Hello Joomla-ers!
Hope you all had a great summer! Now let’s get back to it, shall we?
This meetup is a Round Table discussion on a great subject - SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
The plan is that everyone shares something related to SEO. We all know something about SEO. And none of us know everything SEO. If you don’t know something, then learn something before the meetup and share that…even the simplest things count - there is no judgement. We will all learn something from each other.
Some of what we will go over are basic to advanced SEO techniques in Joomla including:
* Keywords and keyword phrasing
* Internal links and quality inbound links
* Content creation “best practices”
* Indexing with all the major search engines
* Joomla Tools & How-To’s
* How to get great ranking using Joomla with the default tools or 3rd party components
* And more…bring more to the table!
If for some unimaginable reason we run out of SEO topics to discuss, we will go over some basic Joomla security best practices and/or configure JomSocial for the group website.
Charge for this meetup is $5/person to cover the beautiful meeting space. The $5 can be paid in cash at the door or via check made payable to SofTech (our parent non-profit). A minimum of 15 people need to rsvp and attend by the 19th or the meetup will be postponed/cancelled.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Joomla 1.6 has been out now a while, and 1.7 is coming this month (believe it or not). So come find out why this version can give Joomla users, designers and developers all they need in a CMS.
You might be asking: Now what do I do? When is it time to migrate to 1.6? How do I migrate? What steps do I need to take to migrate? Is it worth it to migrate?
The answers to all these questions will be answered at the meetup - and much more.
Specific segments include
* Moving content, images, users and categories from 1.5 to 1.6
* Template conversion/migration and other options
* New components/modules/plugins and some old ones that have been rewritten for 1.6
* Tips and tricks: what are the best aspects to the new Joomla 1.6 and how to get the most out of the new system
* Assessing what you still “need” and don’t “need” in Joomla 1.6
As a bonus, we will also be looking at one attendee’s site and migrating it to 1.6. When you RSVP, a question will be asked for you to give the URL of one website you’d like considered. The leadership team will review and choose one site. That chosen site will be migrated (at least partially - and a plan in place to follow to its completion) to Joomla 1.6 at the meetup.
We look forward to seeing YOU at the meetup and hope you’re having a great summer!

Is Your Business Running You?
* Does time management seem impossible?
* Are you spread too thin?
* Do you need to increase sales and profits?
* Do employees seem “un-manageable”?
* Are you overwhelmed, isolated or stressed?
* Does marketing make you cringe?
Don’t worry - you don’t have to struggle anymore!
Welcome to the world of Skyhawk Coaching and Consulting. I’m business coach and consultant Lynn Hawkins. I used to struggle with my company too, and had more than my fill of the insanity that often comes along with entrepreneurship. I knew there had to be a better way, and focused on developing an easy and effective approach to professional and personal success.
Since then, my coaching and consulting services have helped so many professionals make more money, increase sales and profits, master time management, achieve their goals and balance their lives. You can have all of this too.
As a business coach and mentor who is dedicated to having profound success with clients, assisting them in building their businesses, Lynn knows that one of the ways that’s done is by strategizing with clients and formulating a sound, strong and “fundable” business plan. Everything starts with visioning and then constructing a blueprint to accomplish that vision, laying out the details in a business plan that meets clients needs and focuses on their goals. Lynn says “A biz plan is almost like the biz owner’s Bible!”
The business plan isn’t something that should be shelved after spending the time, energy, and money to produce it. So, if you want to produce a business plan, need a business plan, or you want to update your existing business plan, attending the 5 Hour Biz Plan Blueprint(TM) Workshop will allow you to finish the day with a viable, and workable business plan. In 5 hours of concentrated work, you will walk away with a complete business plan that you can actually add to your application for loan or grant funding.
Take this workshop in June for:
Only $197 ... and you can bring a friend!

We’ll be covering changes and differences between 1.5 and 1.6. Then, time permitting we’ll cover information on groups and ACL’s.
When you RSVP yes, meetup will ask a couple of questions. Please tell us the aspects of 1.6 you’d like to have covered in the meetup as well as your skill level with Joomla; beginner, intermediate or advanced. Based on this information, we will attempt to cover those aspects of 1.6. If we have a split group of beginner & advanced, we may split the group and I will do the beginner/overview and Mike lead an advanced group on the more complex aspects of users/groups/ACL.
